Forest Creek Golf Club Named To Golfweek’s Top 200 Residential Courses

Forest Creek Golf Club landed not one, but two, courses in Golfweek’s 2021 ranking of the Top 200 Residential Courses in the United States. Tom Fazio’s rugged North Course, opened in 2005 and recently renovated in 2019, ranks 48th on the Golfweek list and 5th among courses in the state of North Carolina.

The South Course, also designed by Fazio and opened in 1996, ranks 90th overall and 9th-best among N.C. courses. “We’re thrilled to see both our North and South Courses featured in the Golfweek rankings,” said David Dew, Forest Creek Golf Club’s General Manager and Chief Operating Officer. “The rankings affirm Forest Creek’s standing as one of the finest private golf facilities in not only the Pinehurst area but the entire U.S.”

Forest Creek Golf Club is the only facility in the state of North Carolina that boasts two courses in the top 100 of the Golfweek Residential rankings.

“Between the 36 holes of North and South Courses, there’s unending variety in the style of golf, visual appearance and shot values,” said Hugh Matthis, Forest Creek Golf Club’s Director of Golf. “The North Course offers natural sandscapes and fits in exceptionally well with its setting in the Sandhills of North Carolina, while the wide fairways and gracefully flowing routing of South Course draws natural comparisons to Augusta National.”

Golfweek’s Top 200 Residential Course rankings feature courses within residential developments and include both private clubs and public-access courses.

The magazine’s course-rater panel consists of hundreds of experts who evaluate and rate courses based on a set of 10 criteria, including the ease & intimacy of the routing, interest of greens and surrounding contours, variability and memorability of par-3’s, par-4’s and par-5’s, and overall conditioning.
